Der allgemeinen Auffassung nach war 2016 ein furchtbares Jahr. Viele Länder sind von entsetzlichen Terroranschlägen erschüttert worden. Die Syrien-Krise hat Zehntausende von Menschenleben gefordert. Die Türkei hat Selbstmordattentate und einen gescheiterten Putsch überstanden. In über 70 Ländern ist die Freiheit eingeschränkt worden. Zu den politischen Schocks zählten der Brexit und Donald Trumps Sieg bei den Präsidentschaftswahlen in den Vereinigten Staaten – beide wurden weder von den Medien, noch von der politischen Elite vorhergesehen.

Podle všeobecného názoru byl rok 2016 příšerný. Řadu zemí zasáhly strašlivé teroristické útoky. Krize v Sýrii si vyžádala desetitisíce životů. Turecko zažilo sebevražedné útoky a nezdařený pokus o převrat. Ve více než sedmdesáti zemích došlo k omezení svobody. Mezi politické šoky se zařadily brexit i vítězství Donalda Trumpa v prezidentských volbách ve Spojených státech – média ani politická elita tyto události nepředvídala. Zika byla označena za ohrožení veřejného zdraví mezinárodního významu. A rok 2016 byl pravděpodobně nejteplejším rokem v dějinách měření.

According to popular wisdom, 2016 was a terrible year. Horrific terror attacks struck many countries. The Syrian crisis claimed tens of thousands of lives. Turkey withstood suicide bombings and a failed coup. More than 70 countries experienced a decline in freedom. Political shocks included Brexit and Donald Trump’s victory in the United States’ presidential election – both unforeseen by the media or political elite. Zika was declared an international public-health emergency. The year is likely to be the warmest ever measured.

El hambre es un azote de la humanidad desde tiempos inmemoriales. Casi ninguna sociedad importante se salvó; se calcula que entre 108 a. C. y 1911, China sufrió una hambruna por sequía o inundación en al menos una provincia casi todos los años. Pero la lucha contra el hambre es una guerra que la humanidad puede vencer al fin.

Hlad je už od nepaměti pohromou lidstva. Hladomory ovlivnily budoucí podobu téměř všech velkých společností; podle jednoho odhadu trpěla Čína v důsledku sucha či záplav nejméně v jedné provincii hladomorem téměř každoročně od roku 108 před naším letopočtem až do roku 1911. Boj proti hladu je však bitvou, v níž může lidstvo nakonec zvítězit.

Nowe badanie pokazuje jednak, że nie jest to cały – ani nawet dokładny obraz. Zauważenie tego faktu nie oznacza, że globalne ocieplenie nie jest rzeczywiste lub że przywódcy świata i naukowcy nie powinni zajmować się negatywnymi skutkami zmiany klimatu, ale szum medialny i przesada nie służą nikomu.

Is Greenpeace committing a crime against humanity?

Calling GMOs food “Frankenfood” is a brilliant scare-mongering term, heavily promoted by Greenpeace. But it has no basis in reality.

Between 2011 and 2020, more than 140 million girls worldwide will become child brides - defined by the United Nations as marriage before age 18. The effects from such early marriage can be devastating and long-lasting for women: lower education levels and lower lifetime earnings, higher rates of domestic violence, greater risk of dying from pregnancy complications, and increased mortality rates for the children of these young brides.
