The problem with climate policies (and the good news about saving the planet)
Bjorn Lomborg gave a 16-minute keynote presentation to more than 4000 attendents from more than 90 countries at the Alliance for Responsible Citizenship (ARC) Forum in London. Other speakers besides Lomborg included US Speaker of the House Mike Johnson, Energy Secretary Chris Wright, investor Peter Thiel, Canadian psychologist Dr. Jordan Peterson, and former Australian prime ministers Tony Abbott and Scott Morrison.
He pointed out that in an effort to minimize the effects of climate change, countries in the developed world are chasing net-zero at all costs, causing high energy prices and reduced energy consumption.
The problem? Across the world, it is countries with the most energy access that create the most prosperity, and it is those with the most prosperity that are most able to tackle all the world’s big challenges —including the environment.
We need a smarter way forward, with green energy R&D driving innovation to eventually allow cheap green energy, adaptation to ameliorate the climate problem, and energy to drive growth to ensure a better world.
