‘Estamos gastando trilhões para reduzir a temperatura em quase nada’, diz Bjorn Lomborg no Brasil
Brazil’s leading news magazine, VEJA, has featured an extensive interview with Bjorn Lomborg during his visit to Brasília. In the interview, Lomborg argues that governments are spending trillions on climate policies that deliver only marginal temperature reductions at enormous cost. He maintains that climate change is a real challenge but should be evaluated alongside other urgent priorities such as education, health, and poverty reduction.
Rather than focusing on rapid and expensive emissions cuts, he advocates greater investment in green-energy R&D, practical local adaptation measures such as resilient infrastructure, and better forecasting tools enhanced by AI.
Lomborg also highlights that economic growth can deliver more climate resilience, while delivering vast general benefits. He also warns that costly climate policies can generate political backlash if citizens perceive high economic costs and limited benefits.
